2012 MAZDA MX-5 MIATA NAMED A 10BEST CAR BY CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE

– The World-Renowned Roadster Makes Its 13th Appearance on the 10Best List –

IRVINE, Calif. (December 7, 2011) – The 2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been named to Car and Driver‘s 10Best Cars list, its seventh year in a row and 13th overall since the two-seat roadster made its global debut in 1989.  The small-in-size but spunky-in-sports-appeal convertible is a favorite among daily drivers and weekend road racers alike, and, as proven by its frequent appearance on the magazine’s annual top-ten list, has captured the hearts of automotive critics.

“Affordable, attainable, agile and attractive – the MX-5 Miata is as balanced a sports car as they come,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).  “A world record holder as both the most popular two-seat roadster ever produced[1] and as the most raced nameplate, the MX-5 sets the bar high on sports car performance and driving pleasure.”

According to Car and Driver, “Here was an affordable roadster without drawback, a compact slingshot more fun than many cars costing twice as much.”  The MX-5 first landed a spot on 10Best list in 1990 – its first model year – and has been a regular ever since.

The third-generation MX-5 is powered by an MZR 2.0-liter engine, which produces up to 167 horsepower, delivers 140 lb-ft of torque and redlines at 7,200 rpm.  Available with a soft top or industry-fastest 12-second Power Retractable Hard Top, the 2012 model starts at $23,190.
