TORONTO (Thursday, February 16, 2017) – Chevrolet today introduced the all-new 2018 Traverse and next-generation Equinox Turbo-Diesel at the Canadian International Auto Show.

“One of the hottest segments in Canada continues to be crossovers and SUVs. With the addition of Traverse and Equinox, Chevrolet’s portfolio is well positioned to delight our Canadian customers,” said Steve Carlisle, president and managing director, GM Canada. “From the game-changing and award-winning Bolt EV to the full-size Suburban, no one has a broader, fresher lineup of crossovers and SUVs to meet the demands of Canadian customers.”

Traverse and Equinox are two of four all-new or updated SUVs from Chevrolet within a year, joining the redesigned Trax and the all-electric Bolt EV, further updating the brand’s crossover and SUV lineup.

“Market trends in Canada tell us that 2/3 of all customer purchases are SUVs and pickup trucks. Last year we shook up the truck market with the new mid-sized Colorado and we’ve reinvigorated our car lineup with Volt, Cruze and Malibu,” said Laura Pacey, brand director, Chevrolet Canada.  “We’re applying that same customer focus to grow our crossover and SUV business with the addition of the all-new Traverse and next-gen Equinox.”

The all-new, completely redesigned Traverse is wrapped in bold and refined styling, and offers technologies to help keep passengers of all ages and lifestyles comfortable and connected. Traverse will deliver what is expected to be best-in-class third-row legroom, maximum cargo room and passenger volume with an enhanced roster of available active safety features.

The Equinox 1.6L turbo-diesel provides a GM-estimated 136 horsepower, 236 foot-pounds of torque and an estimated highway fuel consumption as low as 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres, providing Canadians the economy, power and range they expect in a diesel.

The Equinox Diesel joins the Cruze, Colorado and Silverado HD in expanding Chevrolet’s diesel portfolio.

Like all Chevrolets, Traverse and Equinox keep customers connected with standard and seamless connectivity including OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility and the myChevrolet smartphone mobile app that keeps you connected to your vehicle from almost anywhere.

Fast Fact:

The Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF System is an integral part of the diesel-operated engine, treating the exhaust gases to improve emissions. Design, testing and integration of the system on the new Chevrolet Equinox was executed by the Engineering team at the Canadian Technical Centre in Oshawa, Ontario.
