TLX V6 A-Spec – Red interior

Interior Styling
The TLX sport sedan interior builds on Acura’s interior styling themes of clean and elegant lines, high-end detailing, and intuitive functionality. A design language called “dual personal structure” divides the space into areas centered on the driver and front passenger, complemented by a wide center stack and a highly functional center console that is easily accessible to each person.

The 2018 TLX utilizes a new version of Acura’s On-Demand Multi-Information Display, a 2-screen interface with intuitive functionality. The 8-inch color upper screen is placed high in the instrument panel, where it is close to the driver’s sight line. The lower screen, a new 7-inch capacitive touch screen, eliminates the need for dozens of hard keys, and has new contextual menus that make operation simple. The quality of interior materials in the TLX are held to a high standard, with available leather seating, and soft-touch materials throughout.

A-Spec Interior
The all-new 2018 TLX V6 A-Spec features a distinct interior with a bold, performance-oriented look. More aggressively bolstered seats are finished in one of two NSX-inspired interior choices: Full Red or Black with Alcantara™. Both offer premium Milano leather-seating surfaces with contrasting piping and stitching; while the black interior features Alcantara seat and door inserts. Brushed aluminum-look trim flanks a thick-rimmed steering wheel with A-Spec badging. Rounding out the sport-themed interior is a black headliner and pillar treatment, red driver’s meter highlights, A-Spec badged door sill trim and a stainless steel “dead pedal”. Finally, the TLX A-Spec borrows several premium features found on the Advance Package – specifically ventilated front seats, red LED ambient light piping in 10 locations (white in the Advance Package) and wireless charging pad.

Interior Colors
The 2018 TLX offers a sophisticated and coordinated interior palette in four colors: Ebony, Graystone, Parchment and Espresso (V6 exclusive). The TLX A-Spec brings two additional interior color choices of Red or Black (with Alcantara™ seat and door inserts). Perforated premium Milano leather seating is standard in the TLX with Technology Package, while leather with contrasting piping and stitching is included on all V6 equipped models.

Versatile, Spacious Cabin
The 2018 TLX features a roomy and versatile cabin with a user-friendly design that can accommodate up to five passengers, while the standard 60/40 split-folding rear seatback allows the interior space to be quickly reconfigured to accommodate a blend of passengers and cargo. The fully finished trunk can accommodate 14.3 cubic feet of cargo.

Driver-Oriented Cockpit
All-important systems and controls in the TLX are positioned within easy reach of the driver. Controls for the systems used most frequently — audio, cruise control, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, available satellite-linked Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™ and Multi-Information Display — are conveniently positioned on the steering wheel. The main instrumentation is an easy-to-read analog design, supplemented with digital and graphic displays. Typical of Acura interior design, the soft-touch switchgear of the TLX is engineered to deliver a quality feel and positive action. A standard multi-view rearview camera provides a choice of three different views, displayed on the bright, colorful 8-inch upper screen. The Technology Package adds Cross Traffic Monitor to the rear camera system, making it easier to maneuver out of parking spots with greater confidence. New for 2018 is the available Surround View camera system, included in the TLX with Advance Package.

Advanced and Intuitive Instrumentation and Controls
The TLX has analog instrumentation with large tachometer and speedometer flanking a Multi-Information Display (MID) that provides a range of information and trip computer functions. The tachometer and speedometer are flanked by an analog coolant-temperature and fuel-level gauge.

Multi-Information Display
A Multi-Information Display (MID), now color on all models, is positioned between the tachometer and speedometer gives the driver access to a range of useful information. Controls positioned on the right side of the steering wheel allow the driver to cycle the MID display through multiple screens of information from sources including Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and more. The Maintenance Minder™ system alerts the TLX driver of upcoming maintenance needs via the MID and should a fault occur with the vehicle, specific warning information appears. On models with Navigation, the MID also provides turn-by-turn route guidance.

Upper Screen
All TLX models feature a bright, full-color 8-inch upper screen positioned high in the center stack of the instrument panel. Its high placement puts it close to the driver’s line of sight where it’s easy to see. Besides navigation information, the screen also offers backup camera views and access to a range of customizable features. A simplified menu structure makes it simpler to use for 2018.

On-Demand Multi-Use Display™
The impressive range of technology offered in the TLX presented designers with the challenge of balancing capability with simplicity. The solution was a 7-inch On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD) touch screen positioned within easy reach of the driver and front passenger. The touchscreen controls a wide range of features, and with its contextual menus, it displays relevant items while minimizing clutter. To make it easy to use, the screen offers audible feedback, which can be adjusted or shut off based on the owner’s preference. In the 2018 TLX, the ODMD touchscreen is a new capacitive display that is more responsive to touch. New software speeds the system response time and simplifies menus and features for a more seamless user experience that’s approximately 30 percent faster.

Power Windows, Locks and Mirrors
Power windows are standard equipment on all TLX models and include auto-up and -down operation on the driver’s and front passenger’s windows. Power door locks, Smart Entry and heated power exterior mirrors are also standard equipment. Power folding exterior mirrors are standard in the Advance package.

Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror
All TLX models feature an electro chromatic interior rearview mirror that automatically dims during nighttime driving to reduce glare from the headlights of following vehicles.

Cargo Carrying Versatility
The TLX has a fully finished 14.3 cu.-ft. trunk plus underfloor storage for small items. 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks allow the TLX to easily carry longer cargo. The seatbacks can be released and folded independently, using a pair of release handles that are easily accessible from the trunk area.

Electric Trunk Lid Release
There are four ways to open the trunk: 1) by pressing the trunk opener switch located on the driver side instrument panel; 2) with the key fob; 3) with the trunk opener switch located in the middle of the trunk, underneath the trunk lid overhang; and 4) in case the electric trunk release is inoperative, the trunk may be unlocked and opened by using the key stored in the key fob.

Interior Lighting
Efficient driver control carries on after dark with analog instruments that are white backlit with LED lighting and feature high-contrast markings. The TLX A-Spec adds dramatic character with red meter highlights. In all TLX models, the gauge package progressively illuminates to give the driver a welcoming feel upon entry. When the door is first opened, the instrument lighting comes to life and then brightens progressively to 100 percent illumination when the ignition is switched on. The illuminated instrument panel then comes alive, indicating that the car is ready to go. At the end of the drive, the instrument lighting dims progressively.

New for 2018, the TLX A-Spec and Advance Package add LED ambient light piping in 10 locations throughout the interior. These lights, illuminated in red on the A-Spec and white on the Advance Package, further contribute to the sporty and premium image of the new TLX.

Front interior door handle areas on TLX models have LED illumination, and the glove compartment and center armrest compartment are internally illuminated. The front doors have courtesy lights that illuminate when the doors are open. The TLX interior lights feature “theater dimming,” which can be set by the driver to one of several dimming rates via the Multi-Information Display.

All the interior switches and vent controls are illuminated to make them easy to locate at night, including the switches on all four doors and the steering wheel. The connectivity pocket located in the front of the center console is internally lit, to make the connection of a smart phone easier. In addition to front and rear overhead interior lights and map lights, the TLX also has a complement of low-level interior cabin lighting. Finally, blue ambient lighting in the ceiling illuminates the front center console and the rear flip-down armrest.

Center Console and Interior Convenience
The center console blends function and comfort with clean uncluttered layout that includes generous internal storage. A deeply padded armrest covers 269 cu.-in. of illuminated internal storage. Compact transmission controls and an electronic parking brake free up space for two large cupholders, along with a connectivity pocket with sliding tray that accommodates a smartphone and cable, while neatly concealing the wiring from view.

In the A-Spec and Advance Package, the center console sliding tray is replaced with a wireless charging pad that can charge compatible devices without a wired connection.

A 2.5 amp USB port (charge and/or data) inside the connectivity pocket allows for easy connection of items such as smart phone or a removable flash drive storage device. The USB port is located alongside a 12-volt power outlet.

In the rear seating area, a wide fold-down center armrest has a padded top. A dual beverage holder and a small tray sized to accommodate a smartphone are built into the rear armrest top.

Comfort and Convenience
The TLX is replete with a wide range of standard and available comfort and convenience features. A Multi-Angle Rearview Camera is standard, and a newly available Surround-View Camera System comes standard with the Advance Package. A-Spec and Advance Packages also include a wireless charging pad in the front console that can charge compatible devices.

The Smart Entry Keyless Access System with front door and trunk access is standard on all TLX models, and on the Technology Package and above, Smart Entry access is expanded to include the rear doors. The 2018 TLX with Advance Package also adds remote engine start that can be activated with a range of at least 300 feet from the vehicle, allowing the vehicle to be pre-heated or pre-cooled and defrosted/defogged based on the customer’s preselected settings.

Smart Entry and Push Button Start/Stop
All 2018 TLX models offer the upscale convenience of Smart Entry and Push Button Start/Stop.

Smart Entry
The Smart Entry system simplifies approaching, entering and operating the TLX — especially when the driver has his or her hands full. To gain entry to vehicle, the driver simply pulls one of the two front door handles (or rear on Tech Package and above) while the remote is in his or her possession.

Push Button Start/Stop
Once the driver has opened the door and is seated, the driver simply pushes the START/STOP button positioned on the instrument panel while pressing the brake pedal to start the vehicle. For accessory mode the driver simply presses the START/STOP button without pressing the brake pedal.

Remote Engine Start
The TLX with Advance Package provides the ability to start the vehicle’s engine remotely, thereby activating the climate control system before they get to the vehicle. The remote is designed to have a range of operation of at least 300 feet.

To start the engine remotely, the owner presses the LOCK button and then holds the ENGINE button for a few seconds. When the engine is started remotely, the wipers, lighting and audio systems remain off, and the security system remains set. The engine will run for up to 10 minutes after remote starting, and then shut off automatically if the owner doesn’t reach the vehicle within that time. This system also provides feedback to the owner to confirm whether the engine is running or the vehicle is locked via the remote’s three LED indicators.

Walk Away Auto Lock®
The new Walk Away Auto Lock feature automatically locks the TLX when the driver leaves the vehicle. This hands-free locking capability adds everyday convenience that’s especially useful when the driver has his or her hands full or is distracted. In typical use, when all doors are closed and the driver walks away, the TLX will automatically lock when the key holder’s distance from the vehicle exceeds 6.5 feet for two seconds or more and when no other key is detected inside the vehicle. An audible buzzer sounds and the hazard lights flash to confirm that the vehicle has locked. The Walk Away Auto Lock feature is programmable, and may be turned on or off as the driver prefers.

Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel
The leather-wrapped steering wheel incorporates the most commonly used controls, allowing the driver to keep their hands on the wheel. Phone and audio controls are on the left side; cruise control and multi-info display controls are on the right side, along with the switches for Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. Tucked out of view but within fingertip reach is a pair of paddle shifters that allow for manual operation of the Sequential SportShift transmission. The TLX A-Spec has a special steering wheel with a thicker rim and an A-Spec badge.

Heated Steering Wheel
The TLX with Advance Package offers the comfort and luxury of a heated steering wheel. A switch on the lower left side of the steering wheel can be activated when the ignition is switched on, and is also integrated to the Remote Engine Start System for automated heating when appropriate. Acura Genuine Accessories also offers an optional heated steering wheel for other TLX models.

Seating
Seating in the TLX is designed for all-day comfort, combined good lateral support for aggressive cornering. The TLX with Technology Package enjoys perforated premium Milano leather seating while V6 equipped models add contrasting stitching and piping. The TLX V6 A-Spec features specially contoured front seats with enhanced lateral support. For added comfort and breathability, the A-Spec with Black interior is finished in a combination of leather and Alcantara™ seat and door inserts while the A-Spec with Red interior features premium red leather throughout.

The driver’s seat of the TLX features 10-way power adjustability (8-way power seat plus 2-way power lumbar support). New for 2018, the TLX V6 with Technology Package, A-Spec and Advance Package add a standard driver’s seat power thigh extension. The front passenger seat offers 4-way power adjustment on 4-cylinder models, and 8-way power adjustment on V6 equipped cars.

Heated front seats are standard in the TLX. Electronic control allows for three temperature settings, along with fast warm-up and smooth, precise temperature control. Ventilated and heated front seats are standard in the A-Spec and Advance Packages. The Advance Package also includes heated rear outboard seats.

The driver’s seat has a 2-position memory and an easy entry/exit function that moves the seat rearward when the front door is open to increase room for entry and exit. Additionally, specially sculpted front seat seatbacks offer extra legroom for rear seat passengers.

A 60/40 split-folding rear seatback allows the TLX to accommodate long cargo, or to combine one or two rear seat passengers with long cargo.

Wireless Device Charger
New for 2018, TLX A-Spec and Advance Package models have a standard wireless charging pad positioned at the front of the center console. It’s compatible with a wide range of devices, and provides convenient recharging without the hassle of a wired connection.

HomeLink® Remote System
All TLX models feature a HomeLink® universal remote system, located in the overhead control panel, which works with nearly all garage door openers and gates systems, and an ever-growing list of other radio frequency (RF)-controlled devices.

Driver Preferences
All TLX models come with two keyless remotes with unique identifiers. Each remote can be set with unique profiles to accommodate the individual preferences of two different drivers. The available preferences include driver seat and mirror positions, along with select HVAC functions. Other preferences include turning entry lights on or off, audio system pre-sets, air conditioning preferences, and navigation system settings.

Capless Fueling System
The TLX features a capless fueling system that eliminates the traditional fuel cap, meaning that fueling the vehicle simply requires opening the fuel lid, refueling, and then closing the lid. This smart and easy-to-use design eliminates the need to touch a dirty fuel cap, reduces the possibility of damaging the vehicle’s paint with the fuel cap or tether, or forgetting the fuel cap at the gas station. It also eliminates the possibility of activating an emissions warning by failing to properly reinstall the fuel cap. See Exterior section for more information.

Hill Start Assist
The Hill Start Assist function helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver switches from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal while the vehicle is stopped on a hill. Hill Start Assist automatically activates when the vehicle senses a certain incline and is fully stopped in any forward gear when facing up hill or reverse gear when facing downhill. Hill Start Assist, when activated, will release the brakes when the driver depresses the throttle or if the driver doesn’t press the accelerator after a few seconds. See Chassis section for more information.

Multi-Angle Rearview Camera
A multi-angle rearview camera is standard on the TLX. It offers three viewing angles (wide view, normal view and top view). The rearview image is displayed on the 8-inch color upper display. On-screen guidelines help the driver better judge distances, and predictive guidelines help make maneuvering in reverse easier. See Exterior section for more information.

Surround-View Camera System
New for 2018, the TLX V6 with Advance Package features four exterior cameras providing a 360 view of the space immediately around the vehicle through the navigation display. A camera button among the display controls changes camera views. See Exterior section for more information.

One-Touch Power Moonroof with Tilt Feature
The TLX features a power tilting and sliding moonroof with a manual sunshade. To tilt or slide the moonroof, the driver or front passenger needs only to fully press the ceiling-mounted switch once (instead of pressing and holding it for several seconds). The moonroof fully opens or closes automatically.

Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control – GPS-Linked
The TLX has a GPS-linked (when equipped with navigation system) temperature control, dual-zone automatic climate control system that lets the driver and front passenger set temperatures to their individual liking.

Easy-to-read buttons and controls are positioned within convenient reach. The HVAC system can also be controlled by voice command, and additional custom settings can be accessed through the 7-inch On-Demand Multi-Use Display™ interface.

With its position-sensing ability, the GPS navigation system (standard on Technology Package and above) contributes to overall passenger comfort with a 3D solar sensing feature. Based on continuously updated vehicle position information, the navigation system determines the position of the sun relative to the driver and passenger. Combining this information with input from a solar sensor located on top of the instrument panel, the climate control system automatically adjusts the temperature from side to side as needed to compensate for asymmetrical solar heating. On the A-Spec and Advance Package, the heated and ventilated front seats are electronically linked to the climate control system.

Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control (ASC)
Key contributors to the TLX’s quiet, refined interior are Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control (ASC). The two systems are comprised of dual overhead microphones, an ANC/ASC electronic processor, and the audio system’s speakers. ASC/ANC operates whenever the engine is running, even if the audio system is turned off.

ANC is designed to reduce low frequency sound in the cabin caused mainly by the roughness of the road surface. The overhead microphones pick up sound waves and send them to the ANC/ASC processor, which creates and sends a precisely timed “reverse phase” audio signal to a special amplifier. In turn, the amplifier drives the door speakers to cancel the original noise signal.

ASC is a related technology designed to improve the engine sound quality by making the sound pressure level more linear as the engine revs increase. Typically, engine noise doesn’t increase in a linear way with rising revs; instead there can be many resonances that create peaks and valleys in the sound pressure level and an uneven sound. ASC helps smooth out the engine sound by creating a same-phase or reverse-phase sound signal as needed and sending it to the speakers. Though the system offers benefits from idle to redline, it makes the largest difference in the range between 1,400 and 2,400 rpm (V6) and 1,000 and 1,800 rpm (4-cyl.), where it lowers the sound pressure level with a reverse-phase audio signal.

ASC is part of the Integrated Dynamics System (IDS). When the IDS is in ECON or Normal mode, the ASC system is tuned for a smooth, unobtrusive engine sound. When the IDS is switched to Sport or Sport+, using the Dynamic Mode switch positioned on the center console, the TLX’s interior engine sound takes on a more aggressive note.

ASC is further enhanced on A-Spec models, increasing engine noise in the cabin by as much as 4 dB at engine speeds above 4,000 rpm contributing to a sporty and fulfilling driving experience.

All TLX models have a standard SMS text message function that can read incoming texts aloud over the audio system, and allow the driver to reply with any of six factory preset messages. The system works with SMS-capable cell phones that have an active data plan and the Message Access Profile (MAP), such as the Blackberry, Droid X and others. Apple iPhone® models do not support this feature, but Siri Eyes Free Mode (iPhone 5, 6 and 7 at time of launch) offers the ability to initiate, hear and respond to text messages via voice commands.

Available factory preset text replies:

  • Talk to you later, I’m driving.
  • I’m on my way.
  • I’m running late.
  • OK
  • Yes
  • No

Bluetooth HandsFreeLink
The Bluetooth HandsFreeLink interface is designed to offer hands-free operation for many Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephones. Standard on all TLX models, the system wirelessly connects the driver’s cell phone to the vehicle’s audio system. This allows the driver to make or answer cell phone calls without removing hands from the steering wheel. The system is compatible with Bluetooth-enabled cell phones that have the Hands Free Profile (HFP). A list of compatible phones can be found at handsfreelink.com or Acura.com.

  • Pressing the steering wheel-mounted “Pick up” button answers the call and mutes the audio system.
  • The caller is heard through the audio-system speakers.
  • An overhead microphone picks up the driver’s voice while minimizing background noise and echoing.
  • Numbers with voice tags may be stored in the system’s memory.
  • To make a hands-free call, the driver first activates the system using the steering wheel-mounted fingertip controls, then speaks a preset voice tag.
  • Numbers can also be dialed by speaking the telephone number.
  • Automatic import of phone book and call history with compatible phones.
  • Up to six different compatible mobile phones can be paired with the Bluetooth HandsFreeLink system.

System Operation
The TLX’s available Acura Satellite-Linked Navigation System uses GPS technology and a 100 GB hard disk drive-based (HDD) system to provide drivers with turn-by-turn guidance to their chosen destination. The system includes HD Traffic data and provides coverage in many areas within the U.S., allowing the driver to choose faster, less congested routes. HD Traffic info requires no subscription and is offered at no added cost. The system offers a high level of convenience with the new generation of AcuraLink. Owners can send a destination to the vehicle in advance of a trip using AcuraLink (with the available Connect Package), or while on the road via the AcuraLink Concierge operator (with the optional Premium Package) or the interactive voice response system (with the AcuraLink Connect Package).

The TLX navigation system utilizes the 8-inch high-resolution WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) backlit color display. The system can be controlled by voice, or with a convenient interface dial. The voice-activated system responds to casual command phrases that require less user familiarization, in addition to the capability of being able to understand spoken city and street names.

The TLX’s navigation screen can display regularly updated HD Traffic information including traffic flow, incidents and construction on freeways, and on surface streets. When traffic congestion or road incidents are detected along the selected drive route, the system will automatically recalculate a “detour” route and display a pop-up box signifying the route change. Alternately, the driver can recalculate a route in manual mode simply by selecting “TRAFFIC INCIDENTS” from the Map Info menu followed by selecting the “AVOID” command relevant to an incident.

The navigation system can also suggest scenic routes based on the National Scenic Byways and All-American Roads guide.

USB Port and Power Outlets
All TLX models have two 12-volt power outlets, one positioned in the center console and another positioned near the center armrest. In addition to a traditional auxiliary source input, the TLX is fitted with a USB port in the front center console that allows for easy connectivity to items such as an iPod® or iPhone®, or a removable flash drive storage device containing WMA, MP3 or AAC format music. The 2.5-amp port can be used for data and/or charging.
