Acura Automobiles: Acura RDX Snaps Multiple Sales Records Amidst 2019 Model Launch

  • Best month ever for the RDX and for any Acura SUV
  • Best sales month for any Acura model in more than a decade

The all-new 2019 Acura RDX compact luxury SUV came out of the gate at full gallop, helping break multiple U.S. sales records in June, while topping its highly competitive segment. The 2019 model, which arrived at U.S. dealerships June 1, is the first in a new generation of Acura products and represents the most extensive Acura redesign in a decade.

  • RDX sales set an all-time record for any month jumping 36.9% over June 2017 (itself a record month) on sales of 7,292 units.
  • RDX set a new monthly sales record for Acura SUVs, eclipsing the previous mark of 6,761 units set by MDX in 2014.
  • RDX sales in June were the highest monthly sales total of any Acura model in more than a decade (since the Acura TL sedan in April 2006).
  • RDX was the best-selling model in the compact luxury SUV segment and one of the top-selling luxury vehicles in America in June.
  • RDX propelled Acura to a new June light-truck sales record of 11,185 units, a 16.9 percent gain over June of last year.

“The 2019 RDX sets the foundation for a whole new generation of Acura products, and this incredible response from the market and all of our stakeholders affirms the direction we are taking the Acura brand,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president general manager of Acura.

2019 Acura RDX

Debuting the next-generation of Acura design, performance and technology, and the model’s first-ever A-Spec variant, the all-new 2019 Acura RDX went on-sale June 1 at Acura dealerships nationwide with a class-leading array of premium features and technologies and a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP1) starting at $37,300 (excluding $995 destination and handling).

The 2019 RDX is built on an all-new, Acura-exclusive body and chassis architecture and incorporates a host of new premium features and technologies, including Acura’s True Touchpad® Interface (standard), an ultra-wide panoramic moonroof (standard), Acura ELS Studio 3D™ premium audio, and next-generation Acura sport seats with up to 16-way power adjustment.

The all-new RDX is powered by a direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0-liter, 16-valve powerplant with DOHC VTEC® valvetrain mated to the segment’s only 10-speed automatic transmission (10AT). Peak output of 272 horsepower (SAE net) and 280 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net) bests RDX’s key competitors and delivers 40 percent more low-end torque than the outgoing 3.5L V6 for powerful acceleration.

The 2019 Acura RDX is the first RDX to be designed and developed in America. Like its predecessor, the new RDX is manufactured in East Liberty, Ohio, with the powertrain produced at the company’s other plants in Ohio and Georgia.
