Audi achieves best May U.S. sales in company history

Audi reported May 2014 sales of 16,601 vehicles, which stands as the brand’s second-best month ever and its 41st consecutive month of record sales. May only trailed the all-time record monthly sales mark set in December 2013 of 17,013 vehicles sold. Audi sales year-to-date increased 11.4%% to 67, 482 vehicles sold.

“Within a few weeks of its launch, the all-new A3 sedan has established itself as a core contributor to the Audi U.S. success story,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “Sales strength was seen throughout our lineup with our most exclusive models continuing to represent one-third of overall Audi demand.”

Since its introduction earlier this spring, the A3 premium sedan has become one of the three most popular models in the Audi lineup, with May U.S. sales of 2,261 cars. Combined sales of the range-topping A6, A7, A8 and Q7 models represented 46% of the overall Audi year-to-date sales gain to make up 33.4% of all Audi U.S. sales.

For the month, luxury sedan sales remained strong as the Audi A6 increased 21.7% to 2,151 vehicles sold for the month, while year-to-date demand for the A6 increased 20.8% to 9,719 vehicles sold. Sales of the Audi A7 rose 22.8% in May to 861 vehicles sold, while demand for the A7 increased 10.3% to 3,783 vehicles sold YTD.

May results were bolstered by sales of Audi luxury SUVs, with the Audi Q5 crossover posting a 13.5% gain in May with 3,836 units delivered for the month. Sales of the Audi Q7 increased 14.7% to 1,455 vehicles sold for the month. Year-to-date sales for the Audi Q5 increased 7.3% while YTD sales for the Audi Q7 increased 30.9%.

May 2014 marked a new all-time best month for Audi Certified pre-owned vehicles sales with an increase of 19.8% to a total of 4,162 CPO vehicles sold in May, and a year-to-date increase of 15.2%.

– Sales mix for Audi S performance variants finished the month at 16.9% for the S4 sedan; 36.7% for the S5/ RS 5; 5.8% for the S6; 28.8% for the S7 / RS 7; 12.0% for the S8; 22.8% for the TTS and TTS Roadster, and 8.6% for the SQ5 crossover.Sales of Audi A6 increased to 21.7% compared to May 2013; YTD sales grew 20.8% compared to previous period.
– Sales of Audi A7 increased 22.8% compared to May 2013; YTD sales grew 10.3% compared to previous period.
– Sales of the Audi Q5 increased 13.5% compared to May 2013; YTD sales grew 7.3% compared to previous period.
– Sales of the Audi Q7 increased 14.7% compared to May 2013; YTD sales grew 30.9% compared to previous period.
– May sales mix for Audi TDI models: Audi A6 TDI at 17.3% on 373 vehicles sold; Audi A7 TDI at 11.5% on 99 vehicles; A8 TDI at 18.1% on 78 vehicles; Audi Q5 TDI at 16.4% on 629 vehicles, and for the Audi Q7 TDI at 28.0% on 408 vehicles; with an overall mix of 18.2% on 1, 587 total TDI sales for May.
– Audi Certified pre-owned sales increased 19.8% to 4,162 vehicles in May; YTD CPO sales rose 15.2% to 18,178 vehicles sold.
– The all-new 2015 Audi A3 sedan models officially went on sale this spring, with 5,283 vehicles sold since launch.
– Audi holds the longest running monthly record sales streak in the premium car market according to a completive sales report from MotorIntelligence.com.
