Toronto, Ontario (Friday, February 17, 2017) – Cadillac debuted the Escala Concept and 2017 CT6 Plug-In at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, expanding and elevating the brand’s portfolio.

“The Escala Concept introduces the next evolution of Cadillac design and technical ideas driving the next phase of Cadillac’s ongoing expansion,” said Mahmoud Samara, managing director, Cadillac Canada.  “Escala is an expressive symbol of reward and an exhilarating driving experience.  On the interior, we pushed further. It’s about precision and ingenuity in craftsmanship, and the artistic integration of technology.”

Cadillac Escala

Escala — Spanish for “scale”— is a concept for a larger, more elite and expressive companion to the Cadillac CT6.  Escala is the third in a series of concepts Cadillac has in recent years, following the Ciel convertible (2011) and Elmiraj coupe (2013).

Escala is designed to be both a driver’s car and an indulgent flagship sedan. The large 4-door sedan features an expansive liftback design emphasizing the car’s considerable scale and versatility. At 210.5 inches in overall length, Escala is roughly 6 inches longer than the CT6.

Escala features a new and evolved face of Cadillac design that will begin appearing on production models soon. This includes a new expression of Cadillac’s vertical lighting, a brand signature since 1948. Organic light emitting diode (OLED) lighting elements are thinner and set deep within the fascia, creating a sinister look, day and night.

The concept’s details invite closer inspection, including a three-dimensional precision pattern in the grille design and 22-inch wheels with two layers of spokes.

Escala features a “dual personality” interior crafted with distinctly different zones: The front is about intensely focused modern technology, while the rear delivers relaxation.

An array of three curved OLED screens is a prominent feature in the front of the cabin. The very thin, curved displays are layered in front of the driver, with the back sides wrapped in hand-stitched leather embossed with the Cadillac script. The array of screens consolidate the traditional “cluster” of driving gauges with the “center stack” into one integrated unit.

Escala includes new designs for connectivity and control, providing a prototype for the user experience in development for future production models. The system features a central control module that enables the driver to execute tactile commands across the spectrum of connectivity functions, in addition to voice and gesture control technology. Inside the controller sits a new edition of Cadillac’s “flying Goddess” icon, a nod to the brand’s illustrious heritage.

Like all Cadillac models today, the interior is assembled using hand cut-and-sewn techniques. However, Escala presents several new and unique touches, blending overt luxury with covert technology. Escala makes broad use of hand-tailored fabric on the door trim and seating areas. Inspired by suiting material used by Cadillac’s partners in the fashion industry, the fabric provides a new level of hand-applied craftsmanship and colour, unique in today’s auto interior landscape.

The Escala Concept utilizes Cadillac’s new RWD-centric large luxury car architecture, featuring one of the world’s most advanced body structures, which debuted on the new CT6. The mixed-material construction enables unprecedented agility and efficiency.

Escala uses a new 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, a prototype of a new system in development for future Cadillac models. The advanced engine utilizes Active Fuel Management technology, enabling fuel-saving 4-cylinder operation.

2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In

The CT6 Plug-In is a vehicle choice for Canadians looking for leadership in environmental and technological innovation.  The car’s combination of efficient engine and battery power enables drivers the freedom of up to 708 km’s of total driving range. Thanks to the advanced propulsion system, the CT6 Plug-In removes all range anxiety for our customers.

The advanced plug-in technology enables the luxury sedan to reward Canadian drivers with environmentally conscious driving without compromising on performance.   The CT6 Plug-In system is designed to provide responsive, all-electric driving for most daily commutes, while maximizing fuel efficiency by providing blended power from the engine and battery at higher speeds and higher loads.

Cadillac’s prestige plug-in entry achieves the same zero to 96 km/h (60 mph) performance as its V6-powered competitors, while achieving roughly twice the full EV range and energy efficiency.

The CT6 Plug-In is estimated to have fuel efficiency of 3.6Le/100km. Litre equivalence per 100 kilometres – Le/100km – compares energy consumption of plug-in electric vehicles and other advanced technology vehicles with the fuel consumption of conventional internal combustion vehicles in litres per 100 kilometres (L/100km).

The CT6 Plug-In combines an all-new rear wheel drive electric variable transmission to provide the smooth, powerful acceleration expected from a driver’s car. The two-motor EVT system combines with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four- cylinder gas engine to produce an estimated total system power of 335 hp (250 kW) and 432 lb-ft (586 Nm) of torque. This helps propel the vehicle from a zero to 96km/h (60 mph) in an estimated 5.2 seconds.

Each electric motor produces 100 hp (74.5 kW) of power. On electric power only, the car is capable of reaching a top speed of 125 km/h (78 mph), with the additional power of the engine adding hundreds of kilometres of total range and a top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph) on a track.  Electric range for the CT6 Plug-In is estimated to be up to 50 kilometres (31 miles)*

The CT6 Plug-In will be offered as its own unique package within the CT6 product line, with pricing and equipment comparable to the existing Premium Luxury model (second highest within in the model range). The Plug-In model includes numerous optional equipment as standard, such as a Rear Seat Infotainment system, Enhanced Night Vision and Rear Camera mirror.

*2017 CT6 Plug-In energy consumption and range estimates based on GM testing in accordance with Government of Canada approved test methods.  Full charge required. Actual consumption, driving range and energy cost will vary based on temperature, driving conditions, and how you drive and maintain your vehicle.  Even with a fully charged battery, the gas powered electric generator may be required in cold ambient temperatures.
