TORONTO (Thursday, February 12, 2015) – Today at the Canadian International Auto Show, Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2016 Volt EREV, the game changing Bolt EV Concept and the Canadian built, 2016 Equinox crossover.

“It’s an exciting and pivotal time for our company, for our industry, and for Chevrolet as we continue our product offensive with five new Chevrolet product introductions slated for 2015,” said Bob McClelland, brand director for Chevrolet in Canada. “By the end of this year, over 90-percent of the Canadian Chevrolet lineup will be all-new or significantly updated compared to just 4 years ago.”

2016 Chevrolet Volt

The all-new 2016 Volt electric car offers extended range, while showcasing a sleeker, sportier design that offers up to 80 kilometres of EV range, with greater efficiency and stronger acceleration. The Volt’s new propulsion system will offer a significantly increased total driving range.

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt’s technology and range advancements are complemented by a design that blends sculpted, muscular proportions with aerodynamic efficiency, and an all-new interior with seating for five and improved functionality. Everything from charging the battery and checking the charge status, to the intuitiveness of instrument panel controls were designed for easier use.  With some of that development work done right here in Canada at our Oshawa Engineering and Innovation Centre and cold weather testing in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

A new two-motor drive unit is up to 12 percent more efficient and 45 kg (100 pounds) lighter than the first-generation drive unit, enabling 19 percent stronger zero-to-48 km/h acceleration. The battery capacity has increased to 18.4 kWh using 192 cells (96 fewer than current generation) with weight reduced by more than 9 kilograms. The Regen on Demand™ feature enables driver control of energy regeneration via a convenient paddle on the back of the steering wheel.

Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept

Chevrolet is making a significant statement on its commitment to electrification with the introduction of the Bolt EV concept – a vision for an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle designed to offer more than 300 kilometres of range starting around $30,000 USD.

The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity. Leveraging the electrification prowess established by Volt and Spark EV, the Bolt EV concept is designed to offer long-range performance in the U.S., Canada and many global markets.

Drivers will be able to select operating modes designed around preferred driving styles such as daily commuting and spirited weekend cruising, for uncompromising electric driving. The modes adjust accelerator pedal mapping, vehicle ride height and suspension tuning. The Bolt EV concept is also designed to support DC fast charging.

The Bolt EV concept also pushes the envelope for crossover aesthetics. Its unique proportion, with practically no front or rear overhang, makes the most of interior space and was designed to create a roomy environment for four that feels expansive.

2016 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2016 Equinox – a contemporized version of the popular compact SUV. Updates include new styling with premium accents, new wheel designs and new available safety features, as well as a colour touchscreen radio and a standard rear-vision camera for entry-level models.

The enhanced Equinox goes on sale this fall, strengthening Chevrolet’s broad sport utility lineup, which includes the Traverse, the Trax small SUV and the redesigned 2015 Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs.

The Chevrolet Equinox will be built at GM’s CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, ON, the Oshawa, ON, Assembly Plant and the Spring Hill, TN, Manufacturing Plant.
