Meet Jennifer Cowdrey, Quality Crew Lead at our CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

1)      How long have you been at GM and what is your current role?

I have been at GM for 8 years, and my current role is a Quality Crew Lead in Assembly.

2)      What started you on your career path and what brought you to GM?

I have always been very hands-on and enjoy fixing things. I grew up in the country and worked on a farm since I was ten years old. My dad was a diesel mechanic so I was usually in the shop working with him on tractors and trucks. After high school, I went to college for automotive mechanic and worked at a dealership in the shop for three years. I then went back to school for mechanical engineering technician. It was during this program that I had to complete a one-year co-op placement. I applied to CAMI and was hired into maintenance. I loved working with everyone at CAMI, and highly enjoyed the equipment and technical aspects of the manufacturing field.

3)      What is the best part about your job?

The best part about my job is working with a lot of different people and continuously learning about various types of machinery and equipment.

4)      How has GM helped you grow?

GM has helped me grow personally and professionally.  I have learned how to work with different types of people and integrate well with others on a daily basis. GM has given me the opportunity to work in multiple departments at CAMI (Facilities, Assembly, Stamping, Quality, New Product, Paint).  This has expanded my horizons on how a vehicle is designed, developed, and manufactured in a safe and economic way. GM has also assisted me in getting my Bachelor of Management Degree from Athabasca University. While working full-time at GM I simultaneously took online courses for 4.5 years to obtain my degree.

5)      What’s your favourite GM vehicle?

My favourite GM vehicle is my very own 2016 GMC Sierra Elevation 😊

6)      If you could drive to one place where would it be?

If I could drive to one place, it would be to British Columbia. I truly love Canada, and would enjoy the scenic drive from Ontario to BC. I would stop to see certain landmarks along the way in each province, and hike trails that are off the beaten path.

7)      What do you do on your free time?

On my free time I love to hike, walk my chocolate lab Zoey, kayak, cook and bake!

8)      What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you recently?

I recently bought my little cousin a pogo stick for her birthday. I was eager to try it out, but was nervous about falling on pavement so I thought it would be best to try it out on the grass until I got used to it. Little did I know I bounced close to a tree and a branch came out of nowhere. I took a hit to the head, then a hard hit on the rear when I fell! Luckily, it was on the grass. Later that week I purchased a bike helmet for it. 😊
