American online magazines Engadget and SlashGear acclaim fully networked zero-emission microbus

Innovative and
avant-garde – that was the impression created by the BUDD-e at CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas. Just a few days later, the zero-emission concept car unveiled by Volkswagen has been honoured by US online magazines with two awards.

The editorial team of Engadget, one of the leading American online technology magazines, rated the BUDD-e this year’s ‘Best of CES’ in the ‘Best Innovation’ category. In a summary of the finalists, the editorial team emphasised the increased focus on range and fast charging and regarded this as highly innovative. In addition, the editor-in-chief of online guide ‘SlashGear’, which predominantly rates smartphones, cars, computers and digital living, picked out the avant-garde Volkswagen microbus as the overall winner.

With the world premiere of the BUDD-e at CES, Volkswagen is presenting the next step into the mobile world of the future. A new electric drive system facilitates a range of up to 533 kilometres (NEDC). The all-wheel drive vehicle’s total system output is 235 kW / 317 PS, and by arranging the battery in the vehicle floor, a totally new interior configuration has been achieved.

At the same time, BUDD-e is the first Volkswagen concept vehicle based on the new modular electric drive kit (MEB). Equipped with next generation infotainment, it makes travelling an interactive experience. Everything happens more intuitively than ever, with touch and gesture control merging into each other seamlessly. Individual displays fuse together to form large-format infotainment panels and even the internal rear-view and external wing mirrors become digital screens.
