Ford Tough, Meet Ford Safe

When you think of Ford’s iconic F-150 truck, what comes to mind? Prime performance, no doubt—perhaps rough-and-ready hauling capacity, smart technology, and a whole lot of bring it on.

And don’t forget about safety too, since the F-150 has always been at the forefront of innovation. It just so happens that now, it’s even better than ever. That’s because the Ford F-150 SuperCrew and SuperCab full-size pickups have just received the 2016 Top Safety Pick from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). To put it in perspective, the F-150 is the only large pickup to earn this newsworthy recognition. The pickup also received a five-star rating from the NHTSA. That’s two independent agencies both singing the praises of the truck! But what does it mean for you, the driver?

For starters, it’s about improved durability, capability, fuel economy and safety—we put in thousands of hours to create 31 safety-related innovations. We tested them with supercomputer simulations, and then we tested them again in our advanced laboratories.

The results helped us innovate the F-150 in amazing new ways, including patented roof and frame crossmembers to improve crash resilience. Along with the use of high-strength steel in the truck’s frame, military-grade aluminum alloy in the body, and smart engineering that saves up to 700 pounds of weight, the F-150’s innovations point to one thing: Ford’s continued goal to remain the best.

From the moment our team set out to design and build the new F-150, we knew it had to be best-in-class,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick is another example of Ford’s commitment to building the toughest, smartest, most capable and safest F-150 ever.”

Safety and performance—they’re what matters to you, and what matters to us. Why not find out for yourself today?
