2016 GM Canada / Unifor Bargaining

The stream GM Canada/Unifor agreement expires during 11:59 p.m. on Sep 19, 2016 for a National Master Agreement, that covers approximately 3,860 hourly employees – 2,400 during a Oshawa Assembly Plant, 1,400 during St. Catharines Propulsion Plant and 60 during a Parts Distribution Centre in Woodstock Ontario.

These negotiations do not embody a CAMI Assembly Plant common negotiate agreement, that covers 2,600 hourly employees during a plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. That agreement expires on Sep 17, 2017.

Employment From GM Canada Operations

  • GM Canada directly employs approximately 8,400 employees in Canada (6,500 hourly + 1,900 salaried)
  • GM Canada is obliged for indirectly contracting a serve 1,350 agreement support employees, essentially in Oshawa in a OnStar patron support operations.
  • 4,856 of a sum approach and surreptitious jobs are in Oshawa.
  • In Jun 2016, we announced 700 new engineering and program jobs will be combined in Oshawa, Markham and Toronto.
  • Through a GM Canada pensions, we support approximately 30,300 hourly retirees and 7,000 income retirees in Canada.
  • GM Canada pensions are clever and saved by a ongoing Canadian sales operations. In 2009, we strengthened a pensions appropriation with a C$4 billion remuneration and we continue to accommodate all Ontario mandate for solvency funding.
  • By 2019 a commission of hourly employees who are authorised for full retirement are:

    • Oshawa Assembly Plant – 75%
    • St. Catharines Propulsion – 99%
    • Woodstock PDC – 85%
    • CAMI Assembly Plant– 53%
  • In 2015, GM Canada increasing a marketplace share to 13.6% and sold 263,335 vehicles through Canada’s largest play network of 451 dealerships.

    • Canada is GM’s 5th largest sales market by country.
    • Canada is a 3rd largest Cadillac marketplace in a world.
    • Canada is a 2nd largest GMC marketplace in a world.

Investments in GM Canada Operations

  • Since 2009, GM has invested some-more than C$3 billion in a production and engineering operations in Canada.

  • CAMI Assembly Plant, Ingersoll – Chevrolet Equinox and a GMC Terrain
  • Oshawa Assembly Plant – Chevrolet Equinox (Consolidated Line), Chevrolet Impala, Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS (Flex Line)
  • St. Catharines Propulsion Plant – V6, V8 engines, front circle expostulate transmissions
