OSHAWA, ON (November 5, 2014) – GM Canada opened its doors to welcome Grade Nine students participating in the Take Our Kids To Work Day program.  GM Canada has been part of the program for more than 10 years, and in 2014 nearly 160 students experienced working for a global automotive company.

“Take Our Kids To Work Day offers students real world experience and learning about the world of work as they begin to explore potential career paths,” said Kevin W. Williams, president and managing director, GM Canada.  “Visiting a global automotive company, like GM Canada, will help these students understand the importance of staying in school and the benefits math and science can have in their future.”

Students were welcomed at five GM facilities:

  • GM Canada Headquarters, Oshawa, ON
  • Canadian Engineering Centre, Oshawa, ON
  • Oshawa Assembly Plant, Oshawa, ON
  • St. Catharines Powertrain, St. Catharines, ON
  • CAMI Assembly, Ingersoll, ON

Students experienced a range of work conducted by GM Canada employees that included:

  • Plant tours
  • Review of safety protocols for various automotive environments
  • Simulated work environments assembling vehicles and components
  • Advanced technology and safety demonstrations
  • New vehicle displays
  • Opportunities to hear from GM Canada Executives

Take Our Kids to WorkTM is an annual national program in which Grade 9 (or equivalent) students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives and volunteers at workplaces across the country every November.
