Jubilee: Audi Hungaria successful 20 years

“Our decision to establish a production plant in Győr was absolutely right. Audi Hungaria has developed into a successful company that is of particular importance for the global growth of the Audi brand,” stated Dr. Frank Dreves. “This agreement confirms our effective, long-standing cooperation with the Hungarian government and opens up new horizons for future shared projects.”

AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. has been one of Hungary’s largest companies by revenue and one of its biggest exporters for some years now. “The 20th anniversary of Audi Hungaria is proof that since 1993, this country has offered excellent conditions as an industrial location. Our company has developed continuously. The technical knowledge, flexibility and motivation of the Hungarian workforce are a solid foundation for future success,” emphasized Thomas Faustmann, Managing Director of Audi Hungaria. “As the biggest investor in the country, our company makes a significant contribution to the development of the Hungarian economy.”

The past two decades have featured a generally dynamic and positive development: During that time, the company has produced approximately 23.6 million engines and more than 580,000 automobiles. Furthermore, it has continuously expanded the engine production and created new areas of business such as toolmaking, engine and vehicle development, and a project and training center. The Hungarian plant has been enlarged from 240,000 square meters in 1994 to its current size of approximately four million square meters. This makes Audi Hungaria the country’s biggest manufacturing company.

As the world’s biggest engine producer, Audi Hungaria is one of the key engine suppliers in the Audi and Volkswagen Group. Apart from engines, the sports cars Audi TT Coupe and Audi TT Roadster and the convertible A3 Cabriolet also roll off the production lines here. In its jubilee year, Audi Hungaria is approaching a special event: the start of series production of a new A3 model. For this purpose, Audi has expanded the plant into an automobile production facility with a complete process chain. In this way, Audi Hungaria is securing – directly and indirectly – more than 15,000 jobs in the region. At present, the company employs approximately 9,000 people.
