Nissan: Challenging conditions, thrilling racing and spectator fanfare all featured in new Nissan Micra Cup video and magazine

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Nissan Micra Cup opened its 2018 season over the Victoria Day long weekend to tens of thousands of spectators at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), northeast of Toronto. In a new video released today, viewers can see that despite challenging weather conditions on Saturday, the weekend races were exhilarating, especially on Sunday when the top five drivers all contested for the lead, racing under one second of each other.

Coming out of the weekend on top of the championships’ standings is two-time series winner Olivier Bédard, who took the win on Saturday. He is followed closely by Sunday’s winner, Kevin King and Senior Class champion, Normand Boyer, who placed second and fourth in the two weekend races.

Fans can check out all of the action from Victoria Day weekend at CTMP in the latest edition of Micra Cup Magazine attached, and in the full recap release, here. Included is a profile on Olympian Matt Hughes, who drove a Micra S race car in the Micra Cup parade over the weekend, and an interview with series promotor and founder, Jacques Deshaies.

The next Micra Cup event will take place this weekend (June 2-3) as the series heads north to Calabogie Motorsport Park, southwest of Ottawa. Fans can read the full Calabogie preview, including the exciting updates to the race format, here.

About the Nissan Micra Cup
Sanctioned by Auto Sport Québec (ASQ) and presented by JD Promotion Compétition with the support of Nissan Canada, the 2015 Nissan Micra Cup exclusively featured the stock Micra 1.6 S M/T model with minor modifications, including racing suspension – to render it race-ready.

Unlike most motorsport events, each competing Nissan Micra race vehicle had the exact same specifications, resulting in a competition that truly revealed the most skilled drivers. The 2015 Nissan Micra Cup race vehicles were equipped with the Nissan Micra’s stock 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with dual fuel injection and Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Timing Control) and stock 5-speed manual transmission. In its inaugural season, more than 25 Nissan Micras competed on each race weekend which included two hours of track time consisting of: a 30-minute trial, a 30-minute qualifying session and two 30-minute races.

Young karting drivers, the average Canadian looking for an entry point into motorsport competition, or anyone who wants to experience the rush of adrenaline inherent with racing cars are all well-suited to this series. In summary, the Nissan Micra Cup is for people who are passionate about motorsports, want to experience all the fun and thrills of racing, but without spending staggering amounts of money.
