Nissan: NISMO dominates the grid at Silverstone

SILVERSTONE, UK – NISMO-power will again dominate the field in the opening rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series at Silverstone next weekend with 43 cars hitting the track with Nissan engines.

Amazingly, 55 percent of the cars on grid for Silverstone will be powered by Nissan. A total of 11 of the 33 entries in the FIA WEC and 32 of the 45 entries for the ELMS will be powered by Nissan.

Defending European Le Mans Series champions Greaves Motorsport return with a new Ligier chassis, a new driver lineup of Memo Rojas, Julien Canal and Kuba Giermaziak but retain their championship-winning Nissan VK45DE, 4.5-liter, 90-degree V8 engine.

Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy will make his LM P2 race debut in the ELMS event on Saturday. The 2015 ELMS LM P3 champion will drive with Algarve Pro Racing aboard a Nissan-powered Ligier.

Last year’s FIA WEC LMP2 Endurance Trophy winners G-Drive Racing return with a new partnership with Jota Sport but retain Nissan as their engine of choice. In fact in the FIA WEC, all 11 entries will be powered by Nissan.

“Having 55 percent of all the cars on the grid with Nissan powertrains is pretty impressive and overall,” said Global Motorsport Director of Nissan Mike Carcamo. “We have a very strong history with our engine programs. I think we should be very proud of the victories we’ve achieved in the various classes. And the teams have obviously chosen Nissan to give them the best chance to win. Our relationship and commitment with the FIA and the ACO for endurance and prototype racing hasn’t wavered.”

The Nissan-powered LM P3 has experienced dramatic growth in 2016 with 20 car entered this weekend at Silverstone.
