BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada – The Nissan-powered ESM team clinched its second podium of the year in a dramatic IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Scott Sharp and Ryan Dalziel finished third in a race that had multiple safety car periods and brief rain storms that left the teams guessing on tire choice.
Despite a late race shower, Dalziel, on slicks, was able to secure a podium finish.
Dalziel had returned to slick tires with 20 minutes remaining in the event, and he skillfully dealt with the treacherous conditions late in the race.
Both Nissan-powered ESM prototypes had qualified on the second row of the grid the previous day. Sadly, a mechanical issue ended the No. 22 car’s race.
“It was a difficult race with the changing conditions,” Dalziel said. “This is a hard place to pass, and traffic is such a big factor here. Scott had a great stint, and we gambled on what tires to put on. It [slicks] hurt us initially, but with the yellow at the end, we got back up to third. If you look at race pace, I think third is what we had.”
