Nissan: Remarks from Daniele Schillaci at Auto China 2016

Daniele Schillaci
Executive Vice President, Global Sales Marketing, Nissan Motor Corporation
Auto China 2016, April 2016

Good morning, and “nimen hao.” It’s a great pleasure to be here in Beijing with you. Today, I am excited to outline Nissan’s vision for the future.

It is a vision that promises zero emissions and zero fatalities.

It looks to a time when the relationship with cars will be a true partnership.

With Nissan Intelligent Mobility, we are making this vision a reality.

On the strength of Intelligent Mobility, we are designing cars that create a better future for personal transportation, like the Nissan IDS Concept.

Making its Chinese debut here in Beijing, the Nissan IDS Concept delivers the three key elements of Nissan Intelligent Mobility: Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving and Intelligent Integration.

Let me start with the first element:

Nissan Intelligent Power where we are investing in drive and powertrain technologies that promise a cleaner world and increased driving pleasure.

The fully electric Nissan LEAF is proof of our progress.

The most widely recognized and best-selling electric car in the world, it has now driven more than 2.1 billion kilometers globally.

The IDS Concept represents the next step forward.

It doubles battery power and increases the range of Nissan’s electric cars to 550 kilometers.

We continue to advance hybrid powertrains: The Nissan Murano Hybrid, launched in China last year, delivers the fuel economy of a smaller engine with the power of 3.5-liter V6.

And the Xtronic CVT provides intelligent power, keeping Nissan engines at peak efficiency.

Those are important steps forward to a world of zero emissions and proof that Nissan is leading the way.

For all of us, feeling safe and secure is the most vital factor on the road.

Nissan Intelligent Driving uses smart technologies that offer peace of mind and make drivers feel more confident.

For example, Front Emergency Braking adds a new safety dimension, and delivers on the promise of cars that are autonomous.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance will introduce autonomous drive technology to more than 10 models globally, including vehicles here in China.

And we will deliver this technology step-by-step.

Beginning this year, Piloted Drive 1.0 will introduce single-lane control, which allows the cars to do the driving on highways.

At the beginning of 2018, Piloted Drive 2.0 will enable our cars to avoid hazards and change lanes, with no driver involvement.

When we deliver Piloted Drive 3.0 in 2020, Nissan autonomous vehicles will be able to drive through urban traffic.

With the third element of Intelligent Mobility, the Nissan Intelligent Integration, we see a world in which cars will become an integral part of our connected eco-system.

They will network with our social infrastructure, becoming tools for connectivity – not just among people, but among other cars.

Nissan vehicles will connect to road information, leading to fewer traffic jams and more efficient car sharing.

And they will help to improve energy management.

In our vision for the future, our cars will charge as they drive.

They will become mobile power units, linking with electric grids and providing clean energy for homes and businesses.

Here in China, we will promote “Nissan Intelligent Mobility” and related technologies under a strong collaboration with Ching-hua University.

Now, let me give you another proof point and show you how we are preparing for an exciting future.

In 2005, when the first-generation Tiida was introduced in China, it redefined the compact hatchback market.

Since then, Tiida has gone from strength to strength, thanks to our partner Dongfeng Group.

Together, we have created a car that appeals to a young and dynamic person.

This personality aligns with the “Young Nissan Strategy,” being promoted by Dongfeng Nissan.

With a dynamic design, advanced powertrain and safety features, this third-generation Tiida means a great deal to China and to Nissan.

It is an example of Intelligent Mobility.

An improved engine, with Stop and Start system and CVT, highlight the value of Intelligent Power.

Intelligent Driving is delivered through multiple safety features: Forward Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning.

These intelligent technologies are elements of autonomous driving.

Drivers enjoy the benefits of Intelligent Integration with Carplay and Bluetooth connectivity.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the intelligent revolution is happening.

I am proud to say that Nissan is at the forefront.

We are building on our efforts around the world.

With a series of new model launches as Murano, Qashqai and Lannia, China continues to play a major role.

In fact, this past year Dongfeng Nissan sold a record number of vehicles.

The future remains bright, as we introduce another exciting new product.

But to tell you more, I am delighted to welcome the Deputy Managing Director of Dongfeng Nissan, Mr. Zhou [Mr. Joe].

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the new Nissan Tiida.
