Nissan: Supercars do battle in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Nissan Motorsport enjoyed a busy race weekend in the Australian Supercars annual visit to New Zealand, recording five top 10 finishes over the four sprint races held last weekend.

The opening race on Saturday was the most successful for the weekend with Rick Kelly and Michael Caruso crossing the finish line in seventh and eighth place.

After also competing in the Australian GT Championship the previous weekend in New Zealand aboard the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, Caruso scored his second top 10 of the day in ninth place in the second race on Saturday.

Sunday’s action was a tougher battle for the Nissan Motorsport squad with Rick Kelly scoring ninth in the first race and Todd Kelly just missing out on a top 10 in the final sprint in 11th place.

Michael Caruso’s chances of another top 10 were spoiled by a broken anti-roll bar in the final race.

“Unfortunately the rear anti-roll bar broke early in the race, which was a shame because the car felt good for the first few laps,” said Caruso. “From there on it was just hanging on. I saw that Todd’s car looked really fast, so I let him by to help get as many points as possible for the team. Consistency from this weekend is a positive, but we want to be a bit further up the order. We’ve got a bit of time to try and find something extra before we head to Sydney.”

The Nissan Motorsport squad will now head to the final race weekend of the season in Sydney on December 2-4.
