Alex Yoong wins Audi R8 LMS Cup

In an exciting finale, Alex Yoong won the Audi R8 LMS Cup for the second time in a row. The Malaysian race driver clinched his fourth win of the season in round twelve of the series at Shanghai. Runner-up was fellow title contender Cheng Congfu ahead of Rahel Frey. In round 13, the last race of the season, Yoong had to start with 50 kilograms of ballast owing to his success and dropped back to sixth position. His opponent Cheng Congfu finished third behind Aditya Patel and Marchy Lee. Hence the Chinese was beaten by just one point. “That was extremely nerve-wracking, but the title tastes all the sweeter,” said a happy Yoong.

Craig Lowndes in new Audi R8 LMS at Bathurst

Craig Lowndes is returning to the mountain with Audi. The Australian touring car star and three-time champion in the V8 Supercar Series had previously been part of Audi’s line-up in the Bathurst 12 Hour from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, Lowndes decided the race at Mount Panorama in his favor. From February 5 to 7, 2016, the 41-year-old Australian will be competing for the Jamec Pem squad in the new Audi R8 LMS. It’s the first outfit having opted for the new R8 LMS. Steve McLaughlan’s Team Jamec Pem is currently leading the Australian GT Championship with Christopher Mies in the Audi R8 LMS ultra. “I’m already looking forward to participating again with an Audi,” says Lowndes. “After we barely missed victory twice, I still have some unfinished business. I believe that the new Audi R8 LMS will be one of the strongest cars in the field next year.”

First young driver evaluation for the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup

One week following the finale of the 2015 Audi Sport TT Cup at Hockenheim, preparations for the second season of the Audi one-make cup continue in full swing. A total of 20 young drivers from seven nations had been invited for an evaluation training session by the Audi Sport TT Cup team. At the testing facility of the Audi driving experience in Groß Dölln near Berlin, the drivers proved their prowess in the Audi TTS and Audi R8 Coupé. In addition, they presented themselves to the team in personal meetings. The aim of the candidates is clear: they would like to secure one of the entries for the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup and contest races in the 310-hp Audi TT cup car next year. “We’ve again met a number of promising talents and are going to invite the best ones for the final evaluation at Vallelunga in December,” said Project Leader Rolf Michl. For the coming season, 20 instead of the previous 18 entries for permanent drivers will be offered. Applications for the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup can still be submitted until November 15.
