Best Cars 2016: Eight first-places for the Volkswagen Group

• The international readership of auto motor und sport select their favourites

The trade journal auto motor und sport announced their best cars for 2016 in Stuttgart this morning. Finishing with a total of eight top places, the Volkswagen Group proved to be the most successful company in this year’s readers’ poll.

The Audi brand was honoured with three ‘Best Car’ awards this year with the Audi A1 winning the ‘Supermini’ category, with both the Audi A4 and Audi Q7 emerging as winners of the readers’ poll in the ‘Mid-class’ and ‘Large SUV/Off-road’ categories respectively.

The company Porsche headed the class in two categories: The Porsche 911 won the first place in the category for ‘Sports Cars’, while readers voted the Porsche 911 Cabrio/Targa in as the best ‘Convertible’.

The popular Škoda Octavia was voted in as the most favourite imported car in the ‘Import Compact’ category.

The Multivan from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and the Golf from Volkswagen rose to become real serial winners: As in previous years, the popular best seller from Wolfsburg secured the top spot in the ‘Compact’ category, while the versatile Multivan won the coveted trophy in the “Van” category for the 13th consecutive year.

The readers’ choice for ‘Best Cars’ celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. auto motor und sport magazine readers were presented with more than 360 models for selection to choose the best cars in 2016. The German edition, accompanied by 14 European and three non-European magazines published by the auto motor und sport Group, participated in the 2016 readers’ choice.
