Spa-Francorchamps. BMW Team MTEK kick-started the BMW M8 GTE’s
FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) campaign at “The Six Hours of
Spa-Francorchamps” in Belgium with a fifth place qualifying
position. BMW works team drivers Tom Blomqvist (GBR) and António
Félix da Costa (POR) piloted the #82 BMW M8 GTE to its promising
debut WEC starting position with team-mates Nick Catsburg (NED) and
Martin Tomczyk (GER) ready to line up on the grid in ninth in the
GTE Pro class.
Reactions on The Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps:
Tom Blomqvist: (#82 BMW M8 GTE, 5th place):
“We’re happy to be inside the top-five in the GTE Pro class for the
WEC Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. It’s a competitive class and the
four cars ahead of us are Championship stalwarts. I was super happy
with my fastest lap and feel I got the most out of the M8 GTE.”
Nick Catsburg (#81 BMW M8 GTE, 9th place):
“More importantly than our starting positions, we are pleased to
report that we’ve had three trouble-free practice sessions – yes, pace
will play a significant role tomorrow but reliability is imperative to success.”
