The National Highway Traffic Safety Rating Administration has bestowed its coveted 5-Star Safety Rating on the 2015 Ford F-150, Edge and Mustang using its New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
The NCAP is an evaluation program for new vehicle designs to test for performance against safety threats.
What makes Ford’s achievement so extraordinary is that all three vehicles, the F-150, Edge and Mustang are brand new designs fresh off the drawing board for 2015.
The all-new 2015 F-150, for instance, is not only The Future of Tough; it is the future of safety. It’s high-strength, military-grade all aluminum alloy body and bed can absorb twice the crash energy of steel. It also utilizes hydro-formed roof rails that form a cage-like structure around the doors as well as extruded roof bows that provide lateral strength across the top of the cab. Additionally it all rests on the signature backbone of the truck, which is a fully boxed frame, and includes an additional cross member for added strength.
The all-new 2015 Mustang also made the grade earning 5-star safety ratings in the frontal crash test, side crash test as well as the rollover crash test. Semi-autonomous and driver assist features also add to the Mustang’s overall safety. New to the Mustang this year is an all-new inflatable airbag system as well as a robust package of peripheral crash sensors and enhanced exterior lighting. Other notable safety-based features include BLIS Cross Traffic Alert and SYNC 911 Assist that automatically provides details to emergency personnel in the event of a crash.
The all-new 2015 Edge is the third member of the Ford family of vehicles to achieve the NHTSA’s 5-Star Safety Rating. With a plethora of passive and active safety innovations and driver assist features, the 2015 Edge inspires confidence on the road. The Edge boasts available driver-assist technologies like adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support as well as inflatable rear safety belts. This advanced restraint system utilizes safety belt and airbag technologies to reduce injuries in front-end crashes by distributing crash force energy over a larger area of the driver’s torso.
