FCA Establishes Primary Care, Near-site Clinic Exclusively for Indiana Employees and Their Families

July 19, 2018

, Kokomo, Ind.

FCA announced today its plans to open a physician-led, primary care clinic in Kokomo, Indiana, to exclusively service employees and their families. More than 22,000 health care members will have access to the clinic, the majority of whom are located within 10 miles of the facility.

The FCA Family Health and Wellness Center, powered by St. Vincent, located at 1765 East Lincoln Road, will provide a personalized experience through comprehensive primary care services and wellness programs. The clinic is centrally located to the five FCA plants in the area, which comprise one of the largest automotive transmission complexes in the world.

“Kokomo is the perfect location to launch a primary care, near-site clinic given the size and proximity of the employee community working in our five local manufacturing facilities,” said Kathleen Neal, Director – Integrated Health Care Disability, FCA. “Sustaining a healthy workplace and promoting the well-being of our employees and their families is integral to the success of our business.”

The clinic will open and begin providing care to patients on July 30, 2018.

St. Vincent, part of the Ascension health care organization, was selected to operate the clinic. Dedicated to serving Indiana’s residents for more than 126 years, St. Vincent will offer FCA employees and their families access to not only primary care providers and wellness services through this new clinic, but also to local specialists at St. Vincent Kokomo and other sites of care across the integrated St. Vincent health system.

“St. Vincent is excited to have been selected to offer convenient access to high quality, compassionate and preventative health care for thousands of FCA employees and their families,” said St. Vincent Indiana Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Nalli. “By providing improved and easy access to care, we believe we can help bring about a healthier workforce, community and economy in Indiana.”

Citing high per capita health care costs and a shortage of primary care physicians in Indiana, FCA established the Kokomo clinic to create a more personalized and distinct health care experience. Approximately 40 percent of FCA employees do not have a primary care physician, which means many of these employees are visiting places like emergency rooms and urgent care facilities for proactive or preventative treatment.

The clinic will provide quality care and a high level of convenience at no cost for most FCA employees and their families in the Kokomo and Tipton areas.

The FCA Family Health and Wellness Center will administer a holistic approach to health across lifestyle, fitness and access to a fully integrated health care system. The clinic will provide a perfect venue for managing chronic conditions, such as hypertension. The clinic staff will consist of doctors, nurses, medical assistants, dietitians, exercise physiologists and behavioral health specialists. Staff will also include a physical therapist, x-ray technician, pharmacist, chronic disease manager and patient health advocate. In addition, the clinic will offer phone interpreting and translation services as needed.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, U.S. health care prices have increased a staggering 21.6 percent since 2008, driving companies to identify creative approaches to manage these costs, including developing near-site health clinics. While FCA is the first domestic automaker to establish a near-site health clinic, the Company joins a growing trend where 30 percent of large U.S. employers have created clinics as a means of improving employee health and generating related cost savings.
