Ford Wins International Award for “Best Engine Under 1.0-Litre” Again!

Drivability. Performance. Economy. Refinement. Technology. It was the combination of these traits that judges hailed in the 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine, winner of the “Best Engine Under 1.0-Litre” at the 2016 International Engine of the Year awards.

It’s the fifth straight win for the 1.0-liter EcoBoost, recognized as the best in its class each and every year since its launch. This year it beat out 32 competitors, an increase of nearly 70% since the 1.0-litre EcoBoost launched in 2012.

“The 1.0-litre EcoBoost was a game-changer, and despite others following our lead, it remains the undisputed benchmark in its class five years on,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe.

While the groundbreaking 1.0-litre version wins accolades, the EcoBoost line keep expanding. The powerful yet fuel-efficient engine comes in a wide range of sizes, including 1.5-litre, 1.6‑litre, 2.0-litre and 2.3-litre four-cylinder engines, with six-cylinder (V6) 2.7-litre and 3.5-litre versions. The 3.5L will power an all-new Ford GT supercar that recently claimed victory as the overall GT winner of the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours!

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost is available in the Fiesta SE and Focus SE in Canada, delivering 123 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft of torque in both vehicles.

The International Awards are voted on by a panel of 65 automotive journalists from 31 countries. The co-chairman of the 18th International Engine of the Year awards and editor-in-chief of Engine Technology International magazine, Dean Slavnich, offered high praise for the EcoBoost engine, an industry leader affecting positive change.

“It’s a fantastic testament to how down-sizing and greater fuel efficiency needn’t mean sacrifice in other areas like power, refinement and drivability, and can even help enhance these elements.”
