Oshawa, ON (April 23, 2015)General Motors of Canada announced an agreement with local environmental non-profit group Durham Sustain Ability (DSA) to be one of its first partners as it re-launches its Durham Partners for Project Green (DPPG) program.

“The DDPG program will help GM embrace sustainability through comprehensive eco-efficiency assessments,” says Doug Yates, Environment and Energy Director, General Motors of Canada. “By becoming an initial partner in this program re-launch, General Motors of Canada hopes to build on its existing commitment to sustainability and become a role model that will propel even more local businesses to sign-up for this program.” The DDPG program also includes educational seminars, innovative thinking workshops, employee engagement programs, implementation support, guidance in setting metric targets, as well as networking and celebration events.

Durham Region is home to the Oshawa Assembly Plant, the Canadian Regional Engineering Centre and the GM Canadian Headquarters. These operations have made significant achievements in sustainability  including GM Canadian Headquarters achieving Wildlife Habitat Council certification for its protection of the McLaughlin Bay Reserve and the Oshawa Assembly Plant diverting over 94% of its waste from landfill. General Motors of Canada has met the EPA Energy Star Challenge, and continues to run the GM Global Rivers Environmental Education Program with local high school classes for over 12 years.
