DETROIT – General Motors today appointed Cathy Clegg as North America Manufacturing vice president, effective July 1. She will lead a team of more than 74,000 employees with responsibility for 55 facilities including assembly, stamping, powertrain and component operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Clegg most recently was Global Manufacturing Engineering vice president with responsibility for automotive body, press, assembly, controls, paint, powertrain and global program management. During her 31-year GM career, she held leadership positions across the manufacturing organization, including vehicle assembly, stamping and powertrain operations.

As vice president of Labor Relations in 2011, Clegg successfully led GM’s negotiations for the UAW-GM National Agreement. She succeeds Gerald Johnson, who recently was named vice president, Operational Excellence.

“Cathy’s proven track record in key labor and manufacturing roles and her passion for innovation will be an asset to GM and her team,” said Jim DeLuca, executive vice president, GM Global Manufacturing. “Her demonstrated commitment to employees and our customers will help ensure our continued focus on safety and quality.”

Kurt Wiese is named Global Manufacturing Engineering vice president, replacing Clegg. He has 36 years of experience in Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering. Wiese’s most recent position was executive director in Global Product Development. Earlier, he led operations at Oshawa Truck Assembly and Manufacturing Engineering Vehicle Body Systems.

“From the plant floor to global enterprise operations, Kurt brings valuable perspective to support our production teams around the world,” DeLuca said. “His strong reputation for relationship-building and inspiring creativity will serve him well in his new role.”
