Next artist shortlist for a BMW Art Journey announced during Art Basel in Hong Kong. Abigail Reynolds, Newsha Tavakolian and Alvin Zafra are nominated.

Hong Kong. Following final year’s premiere of a BMW
Art Journey, an consultant jury announced a third shortlist on Mar 23,
2016, during a BMW Lounge during a show. As a corner beginning of Art
Basel and BMW, a BMW Art Journey enables rising artist to go on a
tour of their possess choice to rise new ideas and emanate new projects.

Three artists display in Discoveries, a zone for rising artists
during Art Basel’s Hong Kong show, were nominated for a shortlist:

Abigail Reynolds (Rokeby, London)

Based in Cornwall, United Kingdom, Abigail Reynolds complicated English
Literature during Oxford University before posterior Fine Art during Goldsmiths
University. Her seductiveness in books prompts her collages, sculptures,
films and many recently, printmaking. The ideas pushing Reynold’s work
are formed on reportage photography books, her seductiveness in networks of
organisation and how a clarity of time is influenced by technology. She
has exhibited during art institutions and galleries in London, Vienna, Los
Angeles, Seattle, and Eindhoven. In her display during Art Basel in
Hong Kong, Reynolds intends to incorporate a large-scale sculpture
that will deliver copy her sourced images onto potion for the
initial time.

Newsha Tavakolian (Thomas Erben Gallery, New York)

Newsha Tavakolian, innate in 1981, is a Tehran-based print journalist
and artist. Early in her career she constructed print documentaries in
Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan and Yemen and
gained general approval with work published in magazines and
newspapers such as Time, Der Spiegel, Le Monde and a New York Times.
Tavakolian’s exhibitions embody Thomas Erben Gallery, New York, Aaran
Gallery, Tehran, and Otto Gallery, Florence. In her new photography
designation for Art Basel in Hong Kong she papers a lives of
9 Teheran residents. Tavakolian combines a wall-size view with a
vast video shade and several photographs of varying sizes into an
designation drawn from her stirring muster and book “Blank
pages of an Iranian print album”.

Alvin Zafra (Artinformal, Mandaluyong City)

Alvin Zafra was innate in 1978 in Quezon City, Philippines. He
graduated from a College of Fine Arts during a University of the
Philippines in 2000 and won a Dominador Castaneda Award for Visual
Essay. He exhibited during West Gallery, Quezon City, Singapore Art
Museum, Singapore, and Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. In his muster at
Art Basel in Hong Kong, Zafra explores dual opposite cities and their
architectures. The drawings presented are formed on photographs he took
in a National Capital Region of a Philippines and in Hanover, Germany.

All 3 artists are now invited to contention their proposals
describing their ideal tour with a leader being announced in the
early summer of 2016.

The jury pronounced of their choice: “This year’s Discoveries zone of Art
Basel in Hong Kong was quite clever that did not concede for an
easy decision. The shortlist we finished adult selecting is a really talented
organisation of artists with a extended operation of geographic credentials and
artistic practice. We are looking brazen to find out what they are
envisioning for their tour proposals.”

Launched in 2015, a BMW Art Journey is a tellurian collaboration
between Art Basel and BMW, that has been combined to commend and
support rising artists worldwide. The esteem is open to artists who
are display their work within a Discoveries zone in Hong Kong and
within Positions in Miami Beach. Two judging panels, comprised of
internationally eminent experts, shortlist 3 artists, who are
afterwards invited to contention proposals for a tour dictated to further

Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr
(represented by Galerie Max Mayer, Dusseldorf), were announced in
February, for Hong Kong in early summer.

BMW is a tellurian partner of Art Basel and has upheld Art Basel’s
3 shows in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong for many years.
