Nissan: 2017 Nissan Altima, Maxima and Rogue earn Top Safety Pick Plus ratings from IIHS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today awarded three 2017 Nissan vehicles with its “Top Safety Pick Plus” (TSP+) vehicle safety rating, which is the group’s highest-available designation. The 2017 Nissan Altima, Maxima and Rogue each scored at least a “Good” rating in all five “Top Safety Pick” (TSP) test categories and earned “Top Safety Pick Plus” status with “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings for front crash prevention for models equipped with optional Forward Emergency Braking. Beginning this year a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating for headlight performance is also required to earn a TSP+ rating.

To earn a Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must achieve “GOOD” ratings in small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side and roof strength, along with standard or optional front crash prevention. The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder joins the Murano and Sentra in receiving an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating this year.

“Nissan is proud to have many of our North American-built vehicles recognized by IIHS for vehicle safety,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). “As a full-line manufacturer, Nissan places the safety and security of Nissan vehicle owners and their passengers as its top priority. Considering that 85-percent of the vehicles we sell in the U.S. are assembled in North America, we are gratified to see the company’s long-term investment in safety yielding results in these key vehicles receiving high marks from IIHS.”

2017 Nissan Altima – TSP+

The 2017 Altima offers a long list of standard safety features, including Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS). This system includes dual stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor, front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags, and roof-mounted curtain supplemental side-impact air bags for front-and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

2017 Nissan Maxima – TSP+

Maxima offers an extensive range of safety, security and driving aids – many included as standard equipment (depending on grade level). For example, Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW)1, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)2, Forward Emergency Braking (FEB)3, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)4 and Blind Spot Warning (BSW)5 are all standard equipment on the SL, SR and Platinum grades.

2017 Nissan Rogue – TSP+

The Nissan Rogue, the eighth best-selling vehicle in Canada in November 2016 and Nissan Canada’s top-selling vehicle, has been updated for the 2017 model year. Rogue Safety Shield technologies include radar-based Blind Spot Warning5 and Rear Cross Traffic Alert4, both now available on Rogue SV with the optional Moonroof and Technology Package (in addition to Rogue SL Platinum). The 2017 Rogue is also available for the first time with Lane Departure Warning (LDW)6 and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)6 (Rogue SL Platinum only).

1 PFCW is intended to warn you before a collision occurs; it cannot prevent a collision. Speed other limitations apply. See owner’s manual for details.

2 Intelligent Cruise Control is not a collision avoidance system or warning device. Designed to use limited braking. Failure to apply the brakes could result in an accident.

3 FEB cannot prevent accidents due to carelessness or dangerous driving techniques. It may not provide warning or braking in certain conditions. Speed limitations apply.

4 Not a substitute for proper backing procedures. May not detect all moving vehicles. Speed and other limitations apply. See owner’s manual for details.

5 Blind Spot Warning is not a substitute for proper lane change procedures. The system will not prevent contact with other vehicles or accidents. It may not detect every vehicle or object around you.

6 LDW and LDP operate only when the lane markings are clearly visible. Speed and other limitations apply. See owner’s manual for details.
