Nissan: Nissan North America doubles down on partnership with Habitat for Humanity with "The House the Media Built"

NASHVILLE Tenn. – Nissan North America further reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to Habitat for Humanity by bringing in more than 50 journalists from around the nation to participate in its 11th home build in Nashville with the organization, dubbing it “The House the Media Built.” This accelerated, six-day build began Oct. 17 and was completed Friday, Oct. 28 at 4 pm with the home dedication.

“Nissan began its relationship with Habitat for Humanity more than a decade ago with a donation of $1 million, 50 TITAN trucks and an abundance of employee volunteer time following Hurricane Katrina,” said Dan Bedore, director, Nissan Division Communications. “This relationship goes to the heart of our values, not only as a corporate citizen, but as neighbors in the communities in which we live, work and serve.”

“The House the Media Built” follows the company’s recent announcement pledging another $1 million grant to the organization, and another decade of service helping to build more homes for families in need of decent, affordable housing. Portions of Nissan’s contribution will be used to expand Habitat’s vehicle fleet, which supports disaster recovery efforts, with the largest portion going towards the cost of building homes in areas of the country where Nissan has an operational presence.

Nissan’s partnership with Habitat began in 2005 when it donated 50 trucks and mobilized employees to assist in home building following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the Gulf Coast region. In the last decade, Nissan has donated an additional 88 vehicles. Since 2006, Nissan’s employees have logged more than 80,000 volunteer hours with Habitat for Humanity, building 71 homes across the U.S. and 11 in Nashville.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville seeks to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Prior to becoming homeowners, Habitat future homeowners attend home education classes, work at the build site, and volunteer at Habitat’s retail outlet, the ReStore. Since 1985, Habitat of Greater Nashville has built or recycled more than 770 homes.
