Nissan: Nissan Production, Sales and Export Results for March 2013, and April 2012 to March 2013 Period

YOKOHAMA – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, sales and export figures for March 2013, as well as the cumulative figures for the twelve-month period from April 2012 through March 2013.

1. Production
March 2013
Nissan’s global production in March decreased 6.7% year-on-year to 439,353 units.

Production in Japan was down 27.3% year-on-year to 73,267 units.

Production outside of Japan decreased 1.0% year-on-year to 366,086 units.

In the U.S., production increased 21.4% year-on-year to 69,931 units, mainly due to increased demand for the new Pathfinder, Altima and Nissan LEAF, which began local production at the Nissan Smyrna Plant in Tennessee in January 2013.

In Mexico, production was down 15.1% year-on-year to 53,380 units, mainly due to decreased demand in advance of a new model introduction.

In the U.K., production declined 4.6% year-on-year to 42,893 units.

In Spain, production decreased 23.9% year-on-year to 10,069 units.

In China, production decreased 7.4% year-on-year to 127,776 units.

Production in other regions increased 16.7% year-on-year to 62,037 units, mainly due to increased demand in Thailand for Sylphy (which began local production in August 2012) and Almera (model name is Latio in Japan), in addition to increased demand in India.

April 2012 – March 2013
Global production for the April 2012-March 2013 period decreased 0.9% year-on-year to 4,789,286 units.

Production in Japan declined 11.6% year-on-year to 1,060,157 units.

Production outside of Japan increased 2.6% year-on-year to 3,729,129 units, marking an all-time record for the April-March period.

In the U.S., production increased year-on-year. Additionally, production was up year-on-year in Mexico and the U.K., resulting in an all-time record for the April-March period for those two markets.

In Spain and China, production was down year-on-year.

In other regions, production increased 27.5% year-on-year to 626,952 units, mainly due to increased demand in Thailand and India.

2. Sales
March 2013
Global sales in March decreased 7.1% year-on-year to 545,712 units.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 87,116 units in Japan, down 13.6% year-on-year.

In Japan, vehicle registrations in March declined 16.5% year-on-year to 67,782 units.

Mini-vehicle sales in Japan decreased 1.8% year-on-year to 19,334 units.

Sales outside of Japan were down 5.7% year-on-year to 458,596 units.

Sales in the U.S. increased 1.0% year-on-year to 137,726 units, marking an all-time record for a single month.

In Europe, sales decreased 5.5% year-on-year to 82,612 units.

In China, sales decreased 16.6% year-on-year to 109,979 units.

Sales in other regions declined 0.5% year-on-year to 98,086 units, despite increased demand for Almera (Latio in Japan) in Thailand and Malaysia.

April 2012 – March 2013
Global sales for the April 2012-March 2013 period decreased 0.4% year-on-year to 4,861,208 units.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 646,937 units in Japan, down 1.3% year-on-year.

In Japan, Nissan’s vehicle registrations from April 2012 to March 2013 decreased 1.5% year-on-year to 495,880 units.

Domestic sales of mini-vehicles declined 0.7% year-on-year to 151,057 units.

Sales outside of Japan decreased 0.3% year-on-year to 4,214,271 units.

Sales increased year-on-year in the U.S., marking an all-time record for the April-March period.

Sales increased year-on-year in Mexico and other regions, while Europe and China saw a decrease in sales year-on-year.

3. Japan Exports
March 2013
Nissan’s exports in March decreased 32.6% year-on-year to 31,454 units.

Exports to North America were down 54.4% year-on-year to 11,998 units.

Exports to Europe decreased 17.6% year-on-year to 3,798 units.

April 2012 – March 2013
Nissan’s exports from April 2012 to March 2013 decreased 17.9% year-on-year to 608,437 units.

Exports to North America decreased 13.6% year-on-year to 375,067 units.

Exports to Europe decreased 29.6% year-on-year to 69,778 units.
