Nissan: Nissan recognizes “Everyday Hispanic Heroes” in new video series timed around Hispanic Heritage Month

  • Nissan highlights “Hispanics Who Dominate” featuring Hispanic advocates, educators and change makers during Hispanic Heritage Month
  • Consumers are invited to nominate their own community hero for a video profile
  • Nissan-sponsored Mexican National Team soccer match at Nissan Stadium on October 8

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nissan today announced the release of a new video series bringing to life the stories of everyday Hispanic heroes. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 in the United States, Nissan will tell the stories of five Hispanics whose life work has raised the profile of Hispanic contributions to American culture.  

“The contributions of everyday heroes who help Hispanic Americans realize opportunities that they might not have otherwise, is indeed and worth recognition and celebration,” said Lanae Jackson, Nissan’s manager of Multicultural Marketing Communications. “Nissan has chosen to draw attention to the stories of Hispanic advocates, educators and change makers who live largely outside the limelight, yet, whose contributions light the lives of countless others.”

The day-in-the-life style video vignettes in the new series titled, “Hispanics Who Dominate,” will provide a glimpse into the everyday tasks and challenges the featured Hispanic community heroes face to better their own life while bettering the lives of others. The series follows the likes of Renata Soto who co-founded Conexión Américas, a Nashville-based non-profit promoting the social, economic and civic integration of Latino families. Soto’s work has helped shape Nashville’s reputation as a welcoming and inclusive city.

 

 

 

“The day-to-day tasks and challenges associated with moving their respective causes forward become the decisions and actions that enable change, bring about progress and promote Hispanic culture more broadly,” Jackson says of the featured heroes. “Nissan salutes these men and women and their commitment to enable others to be great.”

Among the featured heroes is Homero Magaña, a bilingual school counselor whose humble beginnings as a displaced Mexican immigrant never could have foreshadowed the academic and professional achievements he would eventually achieve. His work to elevate the inequity of access to higher education among Hispanics is helping a new generation of Mexican immigrants realize the dream of a college education.

Other heroes to be profiled include Elías Hermidas, founder of Emprendedor U, which offers free small-business seminars in Spanish to Hispanic entrepreneurs; Sergio Tristán, who works as a lawyer while also running Pancho Villa’s Army, the Mexican National Team soccer supporters group; and Sebastien de la Cruz, a Mexican American mariachi singer who has performed the national anthem in complete mariachi suit at major events including the Democratic National Convention.

Nissan plans to release the videos in early October on www.facebook.com/NissanEspanol. As part of the promotion of the series, Nissan will invite the public to nominate their own Hispanic community heroes for an online profile of their own.

The “Hispanics Who Dominate” video series is just one of a number of activities Nissan has planned during Hispanic Heritage Month. On October 8, the Nissan-sponsored Mexican National Team will take on New Zealand for a soccer match at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, home of the automaker’s North American headquarters. The soccer teams will match up during one of the Mexican National Team’s five U.S. tour stops. Expected to draw more than 50,000 fans, the match will feature an array of activities for fans including a Nissan-sponsored interactive fan zone featuring Nissan cars and trucks, including a TITAN XD wrapped in “El Tricolor’s” signature red, white and green.

Rounding out National Hispanic Heritage Month is Nissan’s sponsorship of and presence at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) National Convention in Miami, which runs from October 9-11. This event marks the largest gathering of Hispanic businesspeople in the country.
