NISSAN PLEDGES TO EAST AFRICA FAMINE RELIEF
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd has pledged €100,000 (around 11 million Yen, or $140,000 U.S.) to the U.N World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian agency, to provide life-saving food assistance to people suffering from the ongoing drought and famine in the Horn of Africa. The money will help WFP provide food to affected people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya – especially children, who are the most vulnerable to the effects of malnutrition.
Nissan Corporate Vice President for Africa, Middle East and India, Gilles Normand, commented: “Nissan is greatly saddened by the famine in East Africa, which has now reached critical levels. Our thoughts are with those affected by the crisis and we wish the World Food Programme, and all other humanitarian organizations and individuals working within the region, every success in their vital efforts.”
