Statement: Head Restraints

October 13, 2017

, Auburn Hills, Mich.

FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 414,134 older-model vehicles in the U.S. to replace their occupant restraint control modules.

Following an inquiry by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company launched an investigation and discovered that a component common to the modules of certain vehicles may degrade after extensive vehicle use.

If this condition occurs, it may inhibit deployment of the vehicles’ active head restraints, which automatically move forward in certain rear impacts to help protect front-row occupants from whiplash injuries.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

The above condition may also illuminate an instrument-cluster warning light. Customers should contact their dealers whenever they observe a warning light.

Certain 2012 Jeep Liberty SUVs and 2012-13 Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger mid-size cars are subject to the recall. Affected customers will be so-advised next month.

The Company urges customers to follow the instructions on all recall notices. Those with questions may call the FCA US Recall Information Center at (800) 853-1403.

Additional vehicles are affected in Canada (est. 24,893), Mexico (est. 9,488) and certain markets outside the NAFTA region (est. 21,473).
