German-Polish Prize is awarded each year for special services to the development of German-Polish relations

The Volkswagen Group congratulates the International Youth Meeting Center at Oświęcim/Auschwitz on receiving the German-Polish Prize of the Foreign Ministers for 2014, which is to be presented on Wednesday November 19 in Berlin. The German-Polish Prize is awarded each year for special services to the development of German-Polish relations.

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, said: “The existence and specific work of the International Youth Meeting Center, which I have seen for myself during a visit to Auschwitz, not only benefit German-Polish relations and our German and Polish employees, but also all Europeans and all people who are aware of history and the dangers that always threaten human rights and democracy.”

In Wolfsburg, Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the General and Group Works Council of Volkswagen, commented: “We are linked to the International Youth Meeting Center by long-standing cooperation that not only benefits our apprentices but also foremen and managers. The projects that we have implemented over the past decades in cooperation with the International Auschwitz Committee at this place which is so central to humanity touch the hearts of our colleagues. The political and emotional thought process initiated by the Youth Meeting Center accompanies us and enriches our lives for many years.”

Gunnar Kilian, Secretary-General of the Volkswagen Group Works Council, who represents Volkswagen on the Foundation Council of the International Youth Meeting Center, added: “Our educational, political and financial commitment to the International Youth Meeting Center and the Auschwitz Memorial Site was mainly initiated by the dedication of the survivors and is founded on the trust that has grown between us. We are deeply grateful to them for accompanying generations of Volkswagen apprentices during their visits to Auschwitz.”
